Florian Fouché is a sculptor but his practice also extends to drawing and photography. His sculptures are constructed through the displacement and juxtaposition of existing forms, some of which are also produced by the artist in new materials. The improbable encounters that result are sometimes akin to childish humour. Thus a “toy” made from concrete weighing 65 kilos would have trouble moving about on its tiny wheels. Other sculptures more closely resemble hallucinations or poetry. The documentary sources can be very old (the hives of Lesbos, dancer Loïe Fuller, a photograph of Chambi from Machu Pichu) but have a sensitive and imaginary goal, as opposed to a didactic one. Following a trip to Romania, Florian Fouché is currently working on transposition in the limited space of an exhibition room in an unusual museum: the Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest. Once Ceausescu’s propaganda tool, this museum now establishes the cartography of a peasant world that is dying out.
