This project steps in the occasion of labelling institutions of the National Education specialized in businesses of art, entitled “Label Excellence des Métiers d’art”, label awarded to Lycée Mont Châtelet de Varzy to its ironwork section. It gives rise to an artist residency, for the creation of a collective work, produced by the artist, the teachers and students, linking the world of ironwork with the contemporary art. This experience asks everyone to mobilize their imagination and ingenuity, but also to shake up his work habits by putting the traditional skills of the black smith in the service of contemporary art, and vice versa.

Martin Lord spent six months of résidence in the section of ironwork to Vocational High School Mont Châtelet de Varzy. The lightness of the materials he normally uses (especially drawing) is confronted to codes and requirements of the ironwork. The transition from drawing to sculpture, this game of uncertainty between the second and third dimension has been central in the project. The work produced by students will be located in the city of Varzy. An exhibition at Musée Grasset will report the project and put it in perspective with other Martin Lord’s works.
